Spooky Door cross stitch finished and framed! Please clap
Delighted with self, found a frame that suits this stitchery perfectly. It was from TK Maxx and I cannot believe how correct the arch is for my door! It was a sort of shiny sky blue, but I painted it over with black acrylic mixed with PVA glue – two coats and it seems to be holding. This is a follow – on to my Georgian door cross stitch designs and I wanted it to be Halloweeny so I changed up the door colour, adding some purple low-lights. There is a lot of life in this design – there’s a cat, two pumpkins, 3 rats, a spider and a ghost. It’s a lively composition and was a lot of fun to stitch. This is a 54 x 80 stitch piece, 4019 stitches, or so – and it did take me the best part of a week to stitch, but then I had work and family all in the middle of that. If a person had no interruptions I feel like this could be a weekend project. I used DMC threads and I used two strands for cross stitch. The fabric is a Zweigart 16 count linen and If I’m completely honest I might have gone up a thread for the black door – or maybe up to 18 count as I did get a little bit of show through from the linen. I do love stitching on linen, but I did spend a little while with a pokey tool and a fingernail gently smoothing the finished piece, trying to convince my stitches to spread out a little. Overall I’m happy, but if I was doing it again I might reach for the 18 count. That’s just my personal preference though. I may stitch this again and make it an ornament.
This particular design will work well on light or dark fabrics – as you can see from these three chart art images. Chart Art is a term I use to descrive the digital drawings of the design that I create in my cross stitch design program – what do you call them? Digital mockups? Something else?
